I am finally writing a guide for one of my favorite email marketing resources! I’ve talked about this countless times on The Blogger Brunch Podcast (especially episode 104 and episode 105) but I’m thrilled to be able to now offer a written resource as well.

Email marketing is one of my favorite tools for growing your business, serving your audience, and driving sales in your business, so I am a big believer in utilizing this powerful tool! If you have followed along for any length of time, you probably know that I’m talking about my favorite email marketing platform, Flodesk! I made the switch to Flodesk from another email provider years ago and haven’t looked back.

I even used to offer a program that ONLY covered email marketing for your small business, called Email Queen, and I loved it! I’ve moved on from programs, but I can’t recommend growing your email list enough, which is why I’m finally writing this post. Let’s chat: all things Flodesk, how to start, why to make the switch, and why you’re doing your audience a disservice if you’re not emailing them.

Why I Made the Switch

Before switching to Flodesk I was using another email provider and had been for a few years, since starting my website in 2013. The old email provider wasn’t super user-friendly, didn’t make it easy to create anything aesthetically pleasing, and they charged by the subscriber! As a small business on a budget, that meant that I was trying to monitor my “sends” and limit my output, which makes no sense at all!

Fast forward to when I switched to Flodesk…I was SO MAD that nobody told me sooner to make the switch! I have so many entrepreneur friends - why didn’t anyone tell me that there was a much easier way to serve my audience via email! (still salty about it!)

Pricing

Before I get into the features and what I really love about Flodesk, let’s talk pricing, because I know you’re wondering how the pricing stacks up. Well, for starters Flodesk charges one monthly flat rate. It doesn’t matter how many emails you send or how big your list is! (amazing!) I ended up paying almost 50% less per month than my old email provider. Hooray! It’s also worth mentioning that if you sign up with code THEBLOGGERBRUNCH then you receive 50% off for an entire year!

Flodesk Features

Ok let’s chat features and all the fun things. The biggest plus for me when I switched was the ease of creating new, BEAUTIFUL emails. Like, I was so shook. (Of course, they made the actual switch very simple, too, with contact importing, etc.) They have SO many beautifully designed email templates and examples just waiting for you to use to serve your audience. The best part is that they’re all included! No extra fees, no bonuses or upgrade features…you have access to all of the amazing designs from day one! I had so much fun designing my very first email (and still do!) because it was so simple and aesthetic. If you are the type of person who thinks, “oh I can just design something in Canva, then upload that into my email provider and it will be super easy…you’re wrong. Having tons of ready-made templates that are stunning and at your disposal is so so valuable as a busy entrepreneur!

Flodesk made it much easier to grow my email list and in turn, my customers and sales, because I was confident in the communication that I was sending out. I knew that my emails were pretty, easy to read, and fun, all thanks to Flodesk! After years of being a little bit scared to promote my email list, now I had a beautiful landing page for easy sign-ups, and the confidence to promote my list. Hooray!

In my business, I use free resources like this article to serve my audience or “freebies” that I will send out via email. Flodesk made it so easy to manage all of my freebie opt-in forms (the webpage where people can sign up for the freebie) and helped me easily organize multiple email lists, depending on which freebie people sign up for. I love organization and it’s imperative when you have so many different resources!

Flo-desk…because they specialize in “flows!” What’s a flow? A flow is an email sequence that is written and scheduled in advance, making it SO simple to serve your audience based on their needs and preferences. For example, when someone would sign up for my content planner freebie, I could schedule the emails in a “flow” that would be delivered to them. First, I would deliver the actual freebie that they signed up for and add them automatically to my email newsletter list. In the first email, I would also tell them that I was going to send another email to them tomorrow that would contain an additional freebie that would help them. Then in the second email, I would tell them that I was going to send them one more freebie the next day that would serve them. In my third email of the flow, I could offer them a paid product that I thought would help them based on the freebie they signed up for. Essentially, that’s one way to start earning passive sales in your business. You set it up on the front end, and then when someone subscribes or signs up for a freebie, you’re sending them helpful resources and then potentially making a sale without ever having to lift a finger! Amazing! Just like Flodesk’s email templates, they also have “flow” templates that make it so simple to setup.

If I can make it as easy as possible to serve my audience, it’s a win! That’s why email marketing is such a huge tool for me. I can deliver relevant, timely information straight to my community’s inbox, without having to rely on an algorithm or anything else that could potentially block the content I worked hard to create. Flodesk keeps it simple and allows me to serve my community!

Overall, the best way to describe Flodesk is “ease.” It’s simple, aesthetically pleasing, makes so much sense, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! All good things ;) If you are on the fence about switching OR if you’re brand new to the email marketing world and know that you need to get started, I highly recommend using Flodesk. Don’t waste another day using another clunky email platform or not serving your audience via email!
